Hyundai Motor (50, 0.65, 1.32%) announced Friday that it had formed a new mobile travel service to launch more service models and appoint an external person as the head of the division.
The company said it has hired song Chang hyeon, former chief technology officer of South Korean Internet giant naver, to lead its new transportation as a-service (TAS) department, which is responsible for the mobile travel business of Hyundai and Kia.
By setting up this new sector, Hyundai will strengthen its alliance and cooperation with global mobile travel companies. The company promised to “break the paradigm of the traditional automotive industry” and transform itself from a manufacturer to a broader mobile travel service provider.
